The story behind Someone To Watch Over Me

Nest and Egg Painting Someone To Watch Over Me
Someone To Watch Over Me ©Sally Evans Acrylic on canvas, handmade paper 24"x30"

We have been traveling a lot more. This is something we've dreamed about for a long time.

I absolutely love to travel and explore. I get excited by new sights, sounds, and the incredible beauty.

But I also really and truly look forward to coming home.

Coming home feels like a comforting bowl of delicious soup on a cold winter's day.

This painting of a nest represents a reassuring place to feel nurtured and loved.

It is filled with the love of family, beauty, and joy.

That nurturing feeling of being cared for and coming home. A safe place that feels welcome.

Even though our son is grown and has "left the nest", and is making a home of his own, he will always and forever be a part of ours.

Around our home, we often have Robins nests perched on a porch light that are cleverly constructed of twigs and branches, bits and pieces.

I love that the bits and pieces come together to create something whole and beautiful.

I wrote on bits and pieces of handmade paper with words that resonate with the nest and eggs symbol and collaged them onto the canvas, tucking them into the nest.

You may not even realize the words are there. It invites you take a closer look, which is a recurring theme in my work.

Some of the words woven into the nest, like a treasure waiting to be found are Love, Home, Nurture, Family.

The title Someone to Watch Over Me was our wedding song, so it has a special place in my heart.

Art is a personal statement about the things that are important to you.
